Phlower

This is really weird. My signature on this picture says 4/5/7. I am pretty sure that is incorrect. I am pretty confident that I drew this picture about two years prior to that date. What I am thinking is that I colored it on 4/5/7. The photo background may have been added then too...I don't know.

Well anyways, I remember that awhile after I drew this picture, I started to color it digitally and then stopped. At the time I thought that it played well in black and white so I sat on it. Then later I changed my mind and made the aforementioned addition of colored penciling, then the photo sky pattern. I like the contrast, especially when you zoom in on it. The original digital file is 300dpi, I think it would make a great poster if someone ever wanted one. The actual drawing I believe is on a 9x12 piece of paper and may be inked...I'm not sure. It is in storage.

I have been toying with the idea of doing a faerie calender for years and this picture is a prime example of what I would like to put into it. I guess I would have to redesign it a bit to fit the general landscape format of most calenders...we'll see.

One more thing; this picture reminds me of warmth. The colors are very pleasing to my eyes, the imagery of this relaxed stretching awakening faerie is appealing and her wings remind me of a cat I used to room with who would catch butterflies in the spring and summer and bring them to us as trophies using his wonderful feline logic. One day he brought in a butterfly with the most beautiful wings I had ever seen on an alive creature. It is that moment that I believe inspired me to to draw this eventually.

Zodiac by Kdg - Gemini

I must admit that I don't know any Geminese, so this picture is based on my light understanding of the sign. I do however like the idea of opposites getting along. Although usually in the world I see pairs or teams of people who appear to be like minded; seeing people together who you wouldn't normally assume were friends is always a special delight.

I Don't Feel any Better

Its funny...I was actually feeling pretty good when the idea for this picture came to me. I was outside with my son, flying a kite in the late spring wind. The 'flurry of vision' came rushing to me then; what if this kite had a frown instead of a the Green Lantern on it?
Who would fly a sad kite?
Where would one fly such a thing?
What would you wear to fly a kite, alone?
etc
etc.
However, I do understand the idea or doing something that is supposed to make you feel better and it just...doesn't.
I get that.
I'm sure you do too.

Untitled 09

I love this painting. I'm not sure if I intended to make it out of Laker's colors, but that is one of the things I like about it. It is also kinda small. Consequently, I never decided which way it is supposed to be displayed so what you see here is the result of an arbitrary decision. This painting uses a style where I allow the paint to pool in mounds in places instead of brushing it out. You can the shadows of this style in the seven circular areas. I am not sure of whether this is on foamboard or cardboard but either way the canvas was something I had lying around the house, another signature of a past technique. I would verify it, but this piece is in storage and I cannot get to it just yet. What I did just get access to however is one of my old computer harddrives and the digital file for this painting is what you see above. Digital artifacts aren't so bad ehy?

Qwerty Style

'Under Construction'

'Re-entry'

'Mike's 29th' party flyer

'Smartbomb'

For awhile I was using this 'Qwerty technique' where every stroke of my digital brush was actually a keystroke. It is a fun way to try to portray something within the limits of another medium. Plus I like to re-purpose things, so this style is right up my alley. I haven't done one of these for a long time though. I really haven't had the inclination. Maybe an opportunity will arise...

Coastal

This one holds a special place in my heart. The creation of this piece marked the beginning of a burst of output that lasted for a good six months or so. I am also pretty sure that this piece was one of the ones that I did not show publicly and if I did, it may have been only once.

At the time I was very much inspired by living near the California coastline. I had recently made the move from Venice to Santa Monica and was really getting into the scene there.

This piece is also one of the few that I have given away. My roommates at the time really liked it so when we parted ways, I gave it to them.

This piece has done a lot of good. It will always stand as a reminder of my potential.
